Vietnam's first weapon museum recently has opened in the southern coastal city of Vung Tau.

The 1,500sq m museum features 1,200 various kinds of guns, 1,000 swords and 500 army uniforms from the UK, Turkey, Mongolia, China and Vietnam, all dating back to the 19th century.

The museum is owned by Robert Taylor, 61, from the UK, whose wife Nguyen Thi Bong is Vietnamese. He has lived in the city since 1991.

Taylor has been collecting old weapons and army uniforms since he was 19 and said he wishes to give the collection to Vietnam, his second motherland.

Bong said the museum is free to the public during this initial period.
