Vietnamese-Danish jazz artist Lan Doky will be entertaining local music buffs tonight at the Hanoi Opera House.

Also taking part in the concert, entitled Vong Nguyet (Wishing Upon the Moon 2011), will be bassist Jonathan Bremer and drummer Niclas Bardeleben.

As the first jazz artist in Denmark, Doky is one of Denmark’s most prestigious cultural icons with a vast discography and a prolific career to his credit.

Doky was born in Copenhagen to a Danish mother and a Vietnamese father.

After nearly 30 years of studying and performing in New York and Paris, Doky returned to Denmark in 2010. His homecoming was widely celebrated, and the Queen of Denmark knighted him on her birthday that year.

In 2005 he debuted as a film director with the acclaimed documentary film Between a Smile and a Tear. In 2008 he was asked by the American Recording Academy to become a member of their jazz committee.
