(ĐN)- The second Vietnam Rice Festival will take place in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang from November 8-11, with the theme “Honouring the Vietnamese Gem - Green Environment for Yellow Fields”.

The festival aims to advertise Vietnamese rice and honour outstanding farmers, rice exporters and scientists who have contributed to the country’s rice production. It will also promote a trademark for Vietnamese rice and boosting tourism and socio-economic development in Soc Trang province.

The 4-day event is expected to attract the participation of 850-1,000 businesses which will be divided into 10 administrative blocks with a special exhibition area to showcase farming tool models and development progresses of Vietnamese rice at all periods, and an exhibition, “Vietnam’s Rice to the Global Market”, to introduce rice strains from domestic localities, which meet export requirements, and an area for local and foreign businesses, foreign embassies and general consulates to introduce their products and find partners.

As the event will coincide with the Oc Om Boc Festival of the Khmer people, the organising board will add two traditional “Ngo” boat race” and “Com dep” (Flat green grilled rice) festivals to the rice festival.
