Nearly 100 motor racers will compete in second Vietnam Motor Cub Prix to be held at Binh Duong Province Army Corp 4 Stadium on October 29-30 |
Ninety-six rivals from HCM City, Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, Can Tho, Dong Thap and elsewhere will compete in the nation's largest ever two-stroke 125cc event on the first day of the tournament.
The competition follows the model of the Petronas Cub Prix in Malaysia and the Asia Road Racing Championships.
Another race for four-stroke motorbikes will be held on the second day of the tournament with the participation of 48 competitors battling it out for a prize of VND200 million (US$9,300), the biggest cash prize ever for such an event.
Tran Minh Quy from the Motor Racing and Cycling Federation said the event will be a turning point of motor racing in Viet Nam.
"It makes me believe that we will join in the world championship in the near future," he said.
The event also gives motor racing fans the chance to see souped-up motorbikes in action, with some types of motorbikes appearing for the first time in Viet Nam during the VMCP Motor Show.
Organisers said the show will also lure more distributors of motorbike parts and accessories to the country.
Malaysian and Chinese racers will be a focus at the show as they will display techniques such as burn-outs and wheelies.
