The 38th Run for Peace, organised by Ha Noi Moi newspaper, was be held on October 2 in the capital city.

The event marks the 57th anniversary of Ha Noi's liberation, which falls on October 10.

Nearly 2,000 runners from the city's districts, universities and colleges and other localities across the country are set to join in the competition. The annual race has also attracted the participation of about 300 foreigners from international friendship organisations and embassies in Ha Noi.

The tournament features more than 200 professional athletes from 20 teams. Female competitors will run 5,250m, three laps around Hoan Kiem Lake, while men will run 8,750m, or five laps.

Last year, Thanh Hoa Province's Nguyen Thi Phuong took the top female title and Nguyen Dang Duc Bao from Khanh Hoa Province topped the podium on the men's side.

As one of the city's events aimed at promoting sports among local people, the tournament will also include races for amateurs, including races for students, workers, armed forces and foreigners who can choose to take part in different categories.

This year's race is the first time organisers are presenting a Friendship award to ambassadors who have been taking part in the run for several years.

Part of the money raised by the race will be donated to the Fund for the Poor.
