Top four teams clash at PV Cup

Four top men's and women's volleyball teams are set to compete at the Four-Star Volleyball tournament-PV Cup in central Quang Binh Province over the weekend.

Four top men's and women's volleyball teams are set to compete at the Four-Star Volleyball tournament-PV Cup in central Quang Binh Province over the weekend.

As scheduled, the four men's teams, including Trang An Ninh Binh, Long An, Sacombank Border Guards and PetroVietnam, will compete in a round-robin from Saturday to Monday.

The four women's teams set to face each other comprises defending champions, the Military Signal Corps, Vietsov Petro, Binh Dien Long An and PV Oil Thai Binh.

Tournament winners will walk away with a cash-prize of VND100 million (US$5,000) each, while second and third placed teams will be awarded $3,500 and $2,000, respectively.

During the event, each team will be allowed to recruit two foreign players, of which only one will be allowed to play at any given time.

PetroVietnam, having signed Vietnamese setter Luu Dinh Toan in a record four-year contract (with a transfer fee of US$72,000) as well as China's Wang Ming, will prove tough rivals for defending champions Long An.

The annual tournament, sponsored by the PetroVietnam Fertiliser and Chemicals Corporation since 2009, is Viet Nam's second major premier volleyball event.
