On June 25, the Dong Nai Economic and Industrial Zones Authority (DEIZA), in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), organized a workshop on policies and solutions to promote the development of eco-industrial parks (IPs) in support of the circular economy and carbon emissions reduction in Dong Nai City.
The event was held as part of the “Scaling up Eco-Industrial Park Approaches to Promote Circular Economy in Viet Nam” project, funded by the Swiss Government through the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of Switzerland.

Speaking at the workshop, Pham Viet Phuong, Acting Deputy Head of the DEIZA, said Dong Nai has adopted a roadmap to transform its existing IPs into green and eco-IPs by 2030, with a vision toward 2050. He described the roadmap as an important step in implementing the Dong Nai City Master Plan for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision to 2050, while also contributing to Vietnam’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Home to 44 IPs and nearly 2,800 operating projects, Dong Nai remains one of Vietnam’s most dynamic industrial hubs. As global supply chains place increasing emphasis on carbon reduction, the circular economy and environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices, the city is shifting its investment strategy from prioritizing scale to emphasizing quality, advanced technology, efficient resource use and sustainable development.

Echoing Dong Nai's development vision, Le Thi Thanh Thao, UNIDO Country Representative in Vietnam, praised the city’s clear commitment to promoting green growth, reducing carbon emissions and improving the quality of industrial development in the years ahead. She noted that Dong Nai is well-positioned to accelerate the transition toward greener, more efficient and more sustainable IPs. UNIDO will continue working closely with local authorities and relevant agencies to support policy research, policy development and pilot eco-IP models, contributing to the development of an innovative, low-carbon and prosperous economy.

During the workshop, delegates heard experts discuss related issues, including an overview of Vietnam’s foreign investment attraction and its orientation toward eco-IP development, the International Framework for Eco-Industrial Parks and related activities in Vietnam, and the current practice of transitioning to the eco-IP model in Dong Nai.
Participants also discussed new policies on renewable energy development in IPs, green finance and access to transition funding, as well as carbon market trends and emerging opportunities for IPs.
