Developing growth engine tied to the “mega airport”
The Long Thanh International Airport is one of the nation’s particularly important transport infrastructure projects. As the host of this "mega-project," Dong Nai is expected to receive a strong development "boost" once the project is put into operation.
To make good use of the development opportunities created by Long Thanh Airport, in the Dong Nai Provincial Master Plan, the locality also identifies this as one of the province's new development catalysts associated with the formation of the Long Thanh Airport urban area.
Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Director of the Department of Finance Truong Thi Huong Binh assessed when Long Thanh Airport officially becomes operational, it will create a driving force for the formation of a chain of value-added services surrounding the airport such as: aviation logistics, distribution centers, free trade, financial - banking services, hotels, conferences, and smart cities. Dong Nai province will have new economic development drivers, creating an important transition for growth and international integration.
To promote the development of the Dong Nai River corridor area, in the planning orientation, Dong Nai province plans to build a riverside boulevard with a scale of 8-10 lanes, while promoting the construction of bridges across the river to strengthen connectivity with Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces.
In the planning orientation for the Long Thanh Airport urban area, in the Long Thanh urban area, Dong Nai province will plan to develop the urban area southwest of this airport. Following that, the province will build a synchronous aviation ecosystem to become a financial - aviation service center, a place for commercial, diplomatic, and cultural exchanges between Vietnam and the world. At the same time, industrial and logistics routes southeast of the airport will be developed to the southeast of the airport, linked with the industrial - logistics service system of Cai Mep - Thi Vai Seaport. The province will develop a chain of urban - industrial - service areas along the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway axis, National Highway 51, and Ho Chi Minh City’s Ring Road 4.
In nearby Nhon Trach urban area, the province aims to build a chain of urban, service, innovation, and high-tech industrial areas along the river, with infrastructure and logistics services synchronously connected to Long Thanh Airport, the Cai Mep - Thi Vai Seaport system, and Phuoc An Seaport. In addition, the Master Plan also includes the development of an international-standard urban service center and innovation hub in the urban area at the heart of Nhon Trach commune, as well as tourism routes connecting the airport with the Can Gio Biosphere Reserve.
Additionally, Dong Nai plans to develop an urban, industrial, service, sports, and entertainment complex at the eastern and southeastern gateways of Long Thanh Airport in Cam Duong Commune.
Turning the Dong Nai River into a dynamic economic axis
Alongside Long Thanh Airport, the Dong Nai River is also planned by Dong Nai authorities to become a dynamic economic development axis of the province.
Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Ha believes that with the Dong Nai River, Dong Nai province has holds significant potential for economic development, especially the riverside area with a large land fund.
For the Dong Nai River corridor area, in the development planning orientation, Dong Nai province will divide it into segments to invest in developing appropriate economic sectors.
In which, the riverside area of the Tan Phu - Dinh Quan segment is oriented towards developing the Tri An Lake tourist area and tourism service clusters following an eco-tourism, resort, and entertainment model associated with forests and activities for landscape protection, headwater forest protection, and water resource conservation.
The riverside area of the Tri An Lake segment is expected to become a national tourism destination, featuring high-end eco-resorts and leisure facilities while preserving the water surface landscape and forest ecosystem. The focus will be on building a road along Tri An Lake and forming lakeside resorts integrated with natural landscapes, contributing to promoting the development of the province's "silver economy".
The riverside area of the Tan An - Tan Trieu section will become an area for developing an ecological agricultural-urban space model associated with industrial axis and transportation infrastructure, forming a dynamic urban corridor on both sides of the river.
For the Bien Hoa - Long Thanh segment, Dong Nai province identifies this as the central segment and main development driver of the entire Dong Nai River corridor. The highlights include Hiep Hoa Urban Area and the area designated for functional conversion of Bien Hoa I Industrial Park into an urban area and the Political and administrative center of Dong Nai province. The southern section will see the development of high-end, model urban-service areas, gradually relocating residents from the existing central area and attracting residents from Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring localities.
For the final segment of the riverside area, the Nhon Trach segment, Dong Nai province identifies this as the gateway urban space to the East and Southeast of the region. Therefore, under the planning, this area is oriented towards developing new urban areas, tourism, commerce, services, and seaports; preserving and promoting the value of mangrove forests associated with tourism service activities, organizing open spaces, green areas, semi-submerged parks, etc.
