Promoting cashless payment channels

Cashless payments are becoming increasingly widespread. Banks have implemented a range of policies and solutions to develop digital transaction and retail services. This initiative provides customers with more opportunities to access and use digital banking services easily and conveniently, thereby promoting cashless payments.

Ngoc Minh, a resident of Dong Xoai ward, said cashless payment channels are expanding rapidly. From supermarkets and convenience stores to small retail outlets such as coffee shops, bread stalls, and street food vendors, QR codes are now readily available for customers to make digital payments. In addition, cashless payment methods offer users a variety of promotions and appealing incentives such as vouchers, cashback, and reward points, helping them save on expenses. This feature is attracting more people, especially the younger generation, to use digital payment channels more frequently.

Many banks are actively expanding services that connect online payment functions through dynamic QR codes and integrate payments via POS machines (devices used at sales points to process card and QR code transactions). These services offer numerous benefits, including automated payment processes, improved operational efficiency for agencies, units, and businesses, optimized fee collection, real-time cash flow management, and the overall promotion of cashless payments.

Recently, in mid-January 2026, Dong Nai University and Vietcombank Dong Nai Branch held a ceremony to sign an agreement to connect an online tuition payment gateway between the two units.

Tran Thanh Nam, Director of Vietcombank Dong Nai (in Tran Bien ward), said the dynamic QR-based online tuition payment solution not only optimizes management processes and streamlines administrative procedures but also provides convenience and transparency for students, lecturers, and the university. Vietcombank Dong Nai consistently views its mission not only as a provider of financial services but also as a partner in implementing the Government's digital transformation agenda, thereby contributing to the promotion of local socio-economic development.

With the widespread use of internet-connected smartphones, the banking sector has invested in developing multiple payment methods such as internet banking, mobile banking, QR payments, card payments, and e-wallets, while expanding the number of card-accepting points.

Nguyen Duc Lenh, Deputy Director of the State Bank of Vietnam - Region 2 Branch, emphasized that innovation and creativity in developing digital banking products by credit institutions, with many banks introducing modern, convenient, safe and secure payment products, not only help expand and improve the effectiveness of cashless payment activities but also enhance the efficiency of capital utilization across the entire economy. At the same time, they continue to create momentum for the development of the digital economy and improve digital banking services for residents and businesses.

According to statistics from the State Bank of Vietnam - Region 2 Branch, as of the fourth quarter of 2025, the number of ATMs in Dong Nai province reached 783 machines, up 1.55% compared to the end of 2024, while the number of POS machines exceeded 15.9 thousand, up 8.14% compared to the end of 2024.

Focusing on population data connectivity in digital banking development

The banking sector in Dong Nai has focused on implementing various solutions to connect with and leverage the national population database, citizen identification, and electronic identification and authentication to develop e-banking services, account services, and online payments.

Tran Thi Hai Ha, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank), Dong Nai branch (in Tran Bien ward), said the branch considers accelerating digital transformation and developing digital banking, in association with the effective use of population data, as one of its key tasks. The branch will focus on applying population data to customer identification and information authentication, thereby enhancing the quality of risk management. At the same time, it will actively expand digital banking services, payment accounts, and cashless payments, especially in rural areas and among household business operators.

Similarly, Bui Van Thanh, Deputy Director of the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) Bien Hoa Branch (in Tran Bien ward), said digital banking is and will remain a prominent trend in the coming period, and it is expected to continue growing strongly. In the near future, BIDV Bien Hoa will proactively promote and develop products, services, and payment instruments tailored to each residential area and to BIDV’s existing customer base.

Nguyen Duc Lenh, Deputy Director of the State Bank of Vietnam - Region 2 Branch, added that banking services in Dong Nai province continue to expand and develop in line with modernization and the application of advanced banking technologies. The convenience of payment services, money transfers, and e-banking not only brings numerous benefits to customers, residents, and businesses in the province but also improves the operational efficiency of credit institutions.
