The Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway section through Dong Nai province is targeted for technical traffic opening before the Lunar New Year 2026. Therefore, the next half month will be a peak period for accelerating construction to achieve this goal.

The main route of Component Project 2, Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway section through Dong Nai province, has completed the asphalt concrete paving of the road surface.
The main route of Component Project 2, Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway section through Dong Nai province, has completed the asphalt concrete paving of the road surface.

Basically on schedule

The Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway Project has a total length of nearly 54km, of which the section passing through Dong Nai province is over 34km long. For the section traversing Dong Nai province, the project is divided into 2 component projects, 1 and 2. Of these, Component Project 1 is invested by the Dong Nai Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board, and Component Project 2 is invested by Project Management Board 85 (Ministry of Construction).

As of mid-January 2026, the total construction output of Component Project 1 reached approximately 64% of the signed contract value, of which, package 18 reached 62% and package 21 reached 67%.

According to the Dong Nai Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board, for Component Project 1, regarding the bridges, both packages have completed the construction of abutment foundations, bored piles, and precast girders. For the main route, the branch roads have completed asphalt concrete paving for a section approximately 6km long.

Meanwhile, for Component Project 2, the total construction output has reached 87% of the signed contract value. For both packages (9 and 10) of the project, the main route has completed earth filling, crushed stone base, cement-treated base (CTB), and asphalt concrete items. Currently, contractors are completing the remaining branch routes.

Regarding the bridges, 22 out of 23 bridges have been basically completed. The remaining bridge is the overpass at Km25+780 on Provincial Road 770B (5 spans), where 2 out of 4 piers have been constructed and girders have been placed for 1 out of 5 spans. The remaining items have not been constructed due to the local authority not yet handing over the site.

In mid-January 2026, during a field inspection of the project, Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh assessed: Contractors have actively implemented construction, and the progress basically meets the set requirements. However, units need to continue to accelerate and speed up further to ensure the goal of bringing the section passing through Dong Nai province, which plays a connecting role between Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thanh International Airport, into operation as planned before the Lunar New Year 2026.

Intensifying construction efforts

Nguyen Van Long, Deputy Director in charge of Project Management Board 85, said: For Component Project 2, Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway, the investor is focusing on completing the main route to ensure synchronization with Component Project 3 (passing through Ho Chi Minh City), striving to put the section from the intersection with Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway extending to the end of Component Project 3 into operation before the Lunar New Year 2026.

Component Project 1, Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway, has a length of approximately 16km; Component Project 2, Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway, has a length of over 18km. Both of these component projects are implemented in Dong Nai province.

Compared to Component Project 2, the construction progress of Component Project 1 is somewhat slower. Nguyen Linh, Deputy Director of the Dong Nai Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board, said: In recent times, project contractors have focused on mobilizing human resources and machinery, working overtime to accelerate the project progress. Currently, the construction progress basically meets the goal of technical opening before the Lunar New Year 2026. According to calculations, by the time before the Lunar New Year 2026, Component Project 1 will basically complete the asphalt concrete paving of the road surface, except for a section approximately 1km long which may only have completed cement-treated base (CTB) construction. For this section, the investor is urging the contractor to further accelerate the construction progress.

Favorable conditions for accelerating the construction of the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway project section through the province currently include dry weather; the supply of earthfill and various types of construction stone has also been licensed and allocated by Dong Nai province, fully meeting construction demands. Especially, the project site, apart from the additional area in Component Project 2, has been fully handed over by Dong Nai province to the investor units.
