Construction continues through New Year holiday, focusing on installing equipment at Long Thanh Airport terminal

On January 2, according to the Long Thanh International Airport Project Management Board, to ensure the project's progress, contractors at the construction site maintained their workforces for the various contract packages throughout the 2026 New Year holiday.

In particular, the installation of equipment at the Long Thanh Airport passenger terminal is being actively carried out by the contractor consortium. During the 2026 Gregorian New Year holiday, contractors continued to mobilize thousands of workers along with machinery and equipment to support construction. For the passenger terminal, the most critical component of Long Thanh Airport, the construction work has now been basically completed.

Regarding equipment systems, contractors have so far completed the installation of 2,790 out of 2,792 tons of BHS steel floor materials for the baggage handling system (BHS), reaching 99 percent completion. They have also installed approximately 7.5 thousand meters of straight Individual Carrier System (ICS) conveyor belts and rough conveyor belts.

As for the checked baggage screening system and the carry-on baggage screening system, nearly 200 devices have been delivered to the construction site and are currently being installed in the domestic terminal area.

For the passenger boarding bridge system, 26 units have been delivered to the site and are currently being installed at multiple gates. For the Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS), 100 VDGS units have been transported to the site and have passed incoming material inspection. Contractors are currently constructing supports and installing equipment at the gates. As of now, escalators, moving walkways, and elevators have all been delivered and are being rapidly installed.

As for contract packages such as the runway, taxiways, and aircraft apron, these have been basically completed. Construction of items, including internal airport traffic systems, the aircraft fuel supply system, and the second runway, is being accelerated, currently running three months ahead of the original contract schedule.

According to the plan, Phase 1 of Long Thanh Airport is expected to be completed and enter commercial operation in the first half of 2026. On December 19, 2025, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) held a ceremony to inaugurate the facilities and launch the first flight at Long Thanh Airport.
