"Farmers compete in good production and business, unite to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty" is a program being promoted by the Xuan Loc Commune Farmers' Association. In the commune, more and more models of typical farmers have emerged, not only creating jobs for workers but also bringing local goods and products abroad.

Technology is applied to production across the growing area of Xuan Truong Mango Tree Agricultural Services and Trade Cooperative.

Good farmers in production and business also contribute to changing the face of rural areas and affirming the leading role of farmers in building advanced new-style rural areas and model new-style rural areas in the locality.

Models of typical farmers

Xuan Truong Mango Tree Agricultural Services and Trade Cooperative is one of the typical examples of applying technology to production. Nguyen Van Dung, Director of the Cooperative, said: The Cooperative has successfully implemented the model of grafting and improving mango varieties, combining Cat Buoi mango with Cat Hoa Loc mango, bringing high yield and superior quality. The Cooperative is aiming to develop a value chain linkage, providing both input services and stable market access for mango products. In addition, Dung also actively guides and transfers techniques for planting, caring for, and harvesting mangoes, building an automatic irrigation and misting system, helping members increase productivity and reduce production costs.

According to Dung, the Cooperative is recording production using electronic diaries instead of manual paperwork. Thanks to advances in the application of science and technology and digital transformation, the cooperative has expanded its consumer market, a prominent advantage compared to individual farmers. In addition, the Cooperative holds monthly member meetings to exchange experiences, share market information, and learn to apply science and technology in production.

Similarly, Suoi Cat Vegetable Cooperative currently has 15.5 hectares specializing in various types of vegetables, tubers, and fruits. On average, the unit supplies about 360 tons of tubers and fruits and 250 tons of leafy vegetables to the market each year. In 2023, all products of the Cooperative were certified to meet VietGAP standards, marking an important step forward in ensuring quality, food safety and hygiene, and enhancing prestige with consumers.

Nguyen Thanh Hong, Director of Suoi Cat Vegetable Cooperative, said: In the early stages of implementation, due to lack of experience and techniques, productivity was low and market outlet was not stable. However, thanks to persistent learning and bold application of science and technology in production, the model has gradually stabilized, bringing in an income of more than 560 million VND/hectare/year.

According to the Xuan Loc Commune Farmers' Association, thanks to the Emulation movement for production and business in the area, many advanced models have emerged, bringing high economic efficiency and spreading the spirit of innovation in agricultural production. In the 2023-2025 period, the entire Xuan Loc commune had 4.5 thousand farmer members registered to compete for good production and business at all levels. As a result, over 2.7 thousand households were recognized as good farmers in production and business at all levels.

The goal of agricultural development in Xuan Loc commune is large-scale, sustainable agricultural production; at the same time, developing high-tech agriculture and organic agriculture associated with local tourism development.

Innovating thinking to develop production and business models

Creativity in approaches, combining local agricultural advantages to develop tourism is what Truong Van My, Director of Suoi Cat Cocoa Cooperative, is doing. With the model of planting cocoa trees combined with garden tourism, My's 4-hectare cocoa garden brings an average income of about 1.2 billion VND/year, creating regular jobs for 20 workers.

Not only enriching himself, My also established a club for 35 people to get rich from cocoa; regularly organizing training courses on cocoa planting and cultivation techniques, and actively link with foreign businesses to consume products, ensuring stable output for farmers.

A highlight of this model is that in addition to agricultural products from cocoa trees, garden tourism is also an important source of income. Combining agricultural production with experiential tourism, the model has attracted 2,000-3,000 visitors/year. Products from cocoa beans such as cocoa powder, chocolate, cocoa wine, lipstick, etc., are introduced and promoted on e-commerce platforms such as Lazada, Shopee, TikTok, Facebook. Among them, two products, pure cocoa powder and milk chocolate, from the facility have been recognized as meeting 3-star One Commune, One Product (OCOP) criteria, contributing to enhancing the value of local cocoa trees.

Accompanying farmers and cooperatives in developing the local agricultural economy, Xuan Loc commune encourages the replication of linked chains with many support policies. The commune also strives to connect consumption, promote products; actively coordinate with businesses, supermarkets, and e-commerce platforms to bring products to modern sales channels; support cooperatives in building brands, traceability stamps, participating in the OCOP program, and maintaining VietGAP certification.

Ho Van Tai, Chairman of the Xuan Loc Commune Farmers' Association, said: In the coming time, the association will continue to promote the role of farmers as key stakeholders in the new era, boost the movement of "Good farmers in production and business, united to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty." It will leverage capital from the Farmers' Support Fund to help households expand their scale and invest in new technological solutions for production. At the same time, it will promote the development of collective economic models, cooperatives, value chain production, high-tech applications, organic agriculture, and build distinctive local OCOP products.
