Dong Nai province and Can Tho city sign agricultural cooperation agreement

On the afternoon of November 6, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Nai province held a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation with a working delegation from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho city. The agreement aims to strengthen collaboration, promote regional linkages, and facilitate market expansion, as well as promote key agricultural products and highlight the strengths of both Dong Nai Province and Can Tho city.

Dong Nai has substantial advantages in developing industrial crops and fruit trees, with many crops ranking among the largest in the country by cultivation area, such as cashew, durian, and tissue-cultured banana. With a total livestock herd of over 4 million and a poultry population exceeding 36.2 million, Dong Nai province is considered the livestock capital of the country.

Currently, the province has 490 OCOP products rated three stars or higher, produced by 323 entities. To date, more than 2,600 hectares of crops in the province have been certified under VietGAP standards. In the livestock sector, 205 farms and three livestock cooperatives have obtained VietGAHP certification, supplying the market with 86,600 tons of pork, nearly 30,400 tons of chicken, and approximately 227 million eggs per year.

Agriculture and rural development continue to play a leading role in Can Tho city, which still holds significant potential for further growth in aquaculture, crop cultivation, and animal husbandry. The city boasts a diverse range of key agricultural products, including extensive rice-growing areas, a variety of specialty fruits, and a 72-kilometer coastline.

Both localities have their own agricultural strengths, creating substantial potential for cooperation. Enterprises from Dong Nai province and Can Tho city have engaged in numerous trade and partnership activities related to the supply of agricultural products and food.

Dong Nai province and Can Tho city serve as both raw material sources and consumption markets for each other. The signing of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Nai province and Can Tho city, as well as between enterprises and production facilities of the two localities, aims to promote the consumption of key agricultural products and the strengths of each locality. This endeavor serves as a crucial foundation for businesses in both localities to establish long-term, sustainable partnerships.
