The Inter-port Road Construction Project is considered an important "piece of the puzzle" connecting the seaports in Nhon Trach, thereby promoting the formation of a port - logistics - industrial park - riverside urban area chain.

The inter-port road has its starting point connecting to the boundary of Ong Keo Industrial Park and its endpoint links to the access road to Viet Thuan Thanh Port (Dai Phuoc Commune).

Strategic transport axis

At the end of September, Dong Nai province held the construction commencement ceremony for the Inter-port Road Construction Project (phase 1). According to the planning, the inter-port road will be more than 15km long, with its starting point connecting to the boundary of Ong Keo Industrial Park and its ending point connecting to the entrance of Viet Thuan Thanh Port.

According to Project Management Board Region 6, the project investor, Phase 1 will cover the construction of a road section over 8.8 kilometers long, divided into 2 parts: section 1 is 6.9km long with 8 lanes; section 2 is 1.9km long with 4 lanes. The project also includes the construction of 5 bridges along the route.

Tran Dai Duong, Director of Project Management Board Region 6, said: The Inter-port Road Project is invested and built with the goal of connecting the system of seaports according to the province's planning, thereby increasing port exploitation capacity. At the same time, this will be a route that contributes to promoting traffic infrastructure development, forming new residential areas, creating a "magnet" to lure investment into industrial parks to contribute to sustainable economic development for Nhon Trach urban area in particular and Dong Nai province in general.

According to the Master Plan for the Development of Vietnam's Seaport System for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, among the total of 3 seaport areas in the province, the new urban area of Nhon Trach has 2 seaport areas with the largest number of seaports in the province. However, in recent years, attracting investment in seaport construction projects in this area has faced many difficulties. The main reason is that the road network serving the connection of seaports has not been synchronously invested. Therefore, the official implementation of the Inter-port Road Project will bring new impetus in attracting investment in planned seaports in the area as well as creating conditions for better exploitation of already invested and built seaports.

Comrade Vo Tan Duc, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, assessed: Once completed, Phase 1 of the Inter-port Road Project will play a role in connecting the road transport system of seaport areas, creating favorable conditions for investment and exploitation of the seaport system. At the same time, it will contribute to the formation of a civilized, modern, and distinctive riverside urban system, associated with the goal of green and smart development.

Especially, in the context that phase 1 of Long Thanh International Airport (Airport) is about to be put into operation, this is also a route that creates opportunities to seize the development advantages from the airport, thereby promoting the formation of a port - logistics - industrial park - riverside urban area chain, contributing to driving Dong Nai's economic breakthrough and affirming its position in the Southern key economic region.

"When completed, the inter-port road will become a strategic transport axis," emphasized Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Tan Duc.

Site clearance to be completed by November 2025

To serve the project construction, since mid-2024, the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee issued a decision approving the feasibility study report for the Compensation, Support, Resettlement, and Site Clearance Project for phase 1 of the inter-port road.

To carry out the construction of phase 1 of the inter-port road, functional agencies will have to revoke an area of nearly 52ha; along with that, arranging resettlement for about 251 households. The total investment of the Compensation, Support, Resettlement, and Site Clearance Project for phase 1 of the inter-port road is nearly 1.2 trillion VND, with an implementation period from 2024 to 2026. However, with the goal of shortening the time and quickly completing the handover of the entire site to serve the project's construction, in recent times, functional agencies have focused on accelerating the progress of the project's site clearance work.

Phase 1 of the Inter-port Road Project has a total investment of over 2.6 trillion VND. According to the signed contract, the project will be completed within 36 months, but the contractor consortium aims to shorten the construction time to 30 months, completing and putting the project into operation by the end of March 2028.

Nguyen The Phong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Dai Phuoc Commune, said: Phase 1 of the Inter-port Road Project passes through the commune, so immediately after implementing the two-tier local government model, Dai Phuoc Commune has closely coordinated with specialized agencies to continue implementing the site clearance procedures previously carried out by the former Nhon Trach district. To date, for this project, approximately 62% of the site area has been handed over.

"Dai Phuoc Commune is focusing on carrying out procedures for the remaining dossiers; at the same time, coordinating with the Nhon Trach branch of the Land Fund Development Center to disburse funds to affected households. The goal is to complete and hand over the entire project site in November 2025," said Nguyen The Phong.
