| The extension of the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien metro line to the administrative center of Dong Nai province and Long Thanh International Airport is one of five planned railway projects aimed at connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai. |
Specifically, the railway lines connecting the two localities that are planned for investment and development in the coming period include: the extension of the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien metro line to Dong Nai’s administrative centre and Long Thanh International Airport; the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau railway; the North–South high-speed railway; the railway linking Tan Son Nhat Airport with Long Thanh Airport; and the Ho Chi Minh City – Loc Ninh railway.
Dong Nai province has reached a basic consensus on the general alignment for the extension of the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien metro line to the provincial administrative center and Long Thanh International Airport. The project will span more than 41 kilometers and utilize MRT high-speed urban rail technology, with a preliminary total investment exceeding VND 60 trillion. The Provincial People’s Committee has assigned the investor to prepare the project proposal dossier, aiming to complete all necessary procedures and finalize investor selection by 2026.
Meanwhile, the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau railway is planned to span approximately 84 kilometers, starting from Trang Bom Station and ending at Vung Tau Station. A branch line from Thi Vai inland port station will connect to the Cai Mep and Thi Vai port complexes.
Ho Chi Minh City authorities have submitted the railway line connecting Tan Son Nhat Airport and Long Thanh Airport to the Prime Minister for investment approval. Dong Nai is currently awaiting the research results from Ho Chi Minh City to review and incorporate the proposed alignment into the provincial planning and other related planning frameworks.
The Ho Chi Minh City – Loc Ninh railway will be approximately 128km long, starting from Di An station and ending at the Hoa Lu international border gate. The Di An – Chon Thanh section is planned as a double-track line, while the Chon Thanh – Loc Ninh section is planned as a single-track line.
The North–South high-speed railway, with a total length exceeding 1,500km, was approved for investment policy by the National Assembly under Resolution No. 172/2024/QH15, dated November 30, 2024. The section running through Dong Nai province will be approximately 80km long.
Currently, railway connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province is operated through the existing Reunification Express line, known as the North–South Railway.
