According to the assessment, the progress of implementing the master plan for the Long Thanh urban area until 2045 has been slow.
In February 2024, the Prime Minister approved the master planning task for the Long Thanh urban area in Dong Nai province through 2045. According to the decision, the planning scope covers the entire administrative boundary of the former Long Thanh district, with a total natural area of more than 430 square kilometers. The urban population is projected to reach approximately 340,000 by 2030 and 480,000 to 500,000 by 2045.
Regarding planning objectives, the general urban planning of Long Thanh through 2045 must effectively leverage natural conditions, distinctive ecosystems, and the advantages of Long Thanh International Airport, along with the national and regional technical infrastructure in the area, to develop appropriate urban spaces and functional zones that enhance land use efficiency.
The Long Thanh urban area is closely linked to Long Thanh Airport, serving as a national gateway to the international community. It also functions as a logistics service hub supporting the airport, and as a regional center for logistics, warehousing, multi-sector industry, and high-tech development in the Southeast region. In addition, Long Thanh is positioned to become a key connection point, a transportation hub, and a multimodal transit center for the country, as well as a strategic growth pole for the South, the Southeast region, and Dong Nai province. This area also holds strategic importance for national and regional security and defense.
Regarding spatial development orientation, Long Thanh urban area will study development models and structures suitable for effectively exploiting the advantages of the national and regional infrastructure system, especially Long Thanh Airport, expressways, and urban railways.
