Accordingly, Dong Nai province has allocated an estimated budget of nearly VND 666 billion from the provincial transport development fund and central government allocations for ongoing projects, with over VND 15 billion earmarked for the regular management and maintenance of national highways. Meanwhile, more than VND 650 billion is designated for periodic repairs.
Under the plan, in 2025, Dong Nai province will carry out periodic repairs on National Highway 51, focusing on fixing roadbed and pavement damages and completing traffic safety systems for the sections, including: from Km0+000 – Km5+300; Km5+300 – Km9+200; Km10+200 – Km12+000; Km14+000 – Km16+000; and Km20+000 – Km24+400.
In 2026, work will be carried out to repair roadbed damage and complete traffic safety systems along sections of National Highways 1, 20, 51, and 56. For National Highway 51 in particular, additional work will include repairing expansion joints on four bridges along the route (Nuoc Trong, Suoi Ca, Quan Tre, Ban 2), upgrading the longitudinal drainage system, and closing openings in the central and side dividers.
Also in 2026, Dong Nai province will carry out regular management and maintenance of National Highways 1, 13, 14C, 20, 51, and 56.
Regarding the section of National Highway 51 passing through the province, according to the Provincial People's Committee, at the time of transfer to Dong Nai at the beginning of July 2025, this highway was in a seriously degraded condition, with many potholes, rutting, and flooding, frequently causing traffic congestion due to the high volume of vehicles, and posing potential traffic accident risks. In addition, traffic signs and signal lights on national highways were still inadequate.
Meanwhile, the budget for regular maintenance in the last six months of 2025 was set at VND 3 billion, which is insufficient to address damages for effective highway operation.
Therefore, immediately after taking over, Dong Nai province instructed the DoC to direct the maintenance units to regularly inspect and patch damaged sections, restore faded road markings, and repair broken signs to ensure traffic flow during the preparation of the repair project.
Currently, the DoC is focusing on surveying and preparing the repair project for National Highway 51. Construction is expected to begin in December 2025. Once completed, the project will address existing issues, ensure efficient highway operation, meet transportation demands, and improve the route's aesthetics.
