(ĐN) – As of June 16, Long Thanh commune was officially established under Resolution No. 1662/NQ-UBTVQH15, following the merger of Long Thanh town and three communes of Loc An, Binh Son, and Long An. Covering an area of 130 km² with over 86,600 residents, this is the only locality nationwide to host Long Thanh international airport, a national mega project.

Designated as a strategic locality, Long Thanh is home to key projects including Long Thanh airport, Bien Hoa–Vung Tau expressway, high-speed rail, and various major roads. It is also piloting commercial housing developments and preparing for Dong Nai Free Trade Zone. As such, the local administration faces heavy workloads related to land clearance, resettlement, and investment preparation.

To meet these challenges, the commune is prioritizing stable governance, administrative reform, and service quality. “Citizen satisfaction is our benchmark,” said Chairman Le Hoang Son of Long Thanh communal People’s Committee, emphasizing the importance of transparent procedures and digital transformation.

Long Thanh is being positioned as a modern satellite city and logistics-commercial hub serving the airport. With a total planned area of over 5,000 hectares and US$16 billion in investment, Long Thanh airport aims to become a major regional air transport center by 2050.

Parallel to the airport, the upcoming Dong Nai Free Trade Zone will be connected with Cai Mep Ha Free Trade Zone in HCM city to form a major inter-regional free trade hub, supported by preferential policies aimed at enhancing global competitiveness.

Alongside mega projects, Long Thanh is also investing in essential infrastructure such as housing, schools, healthcare, and environmental services to ensure sustainable urban growth.

More than an administrative merger, the formation of Long Thanh commune marks a strategic shift to realize its full potential as the core of a vibrant 'airport city' seamlessly connected to global trade and logistics networks.
