The agricultural sector focuses on expanding large-scale specialized cultivation zones applying advanced techniques and high technology to ensure high yield and quality. Special attention is given to policies supporting the expansion of officially certified export growing areas, enhancing the competitiveness of the province’s main fruit crops.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the province’s perennial crop areas are shifting towards higher-value fruit crops. The total fruit cultivation area reaches nearly 78,300 hectares, with increases in both area and production compared to 2023.
Notably, Dong Nai leads the country in tissue-cultured banana export cultivation, with nearly all export banana areas equipped with efficient irrigation and full bunch packaging. In 2023, the province exported nearly 121,000 tons of bananas worth about 1.5 trillion VND.
Dong Nai also ranks first in the Southeast region and fourth nationwide for durian cultivation area. Durian exports reached 20,000 tons in 2023, generating 50 million USD. Durian is among the most profitable crops, with farmers earning between 800 million to 1 billion VND per hectare annually.
Looking ahead, Dong Nai aims to build concentrated fruit production zones, enhancing product quality and brand value by improving infrastructure, investing in high-yield and disease-resistant varieties, expanding mechanization, and standardizing post-harvest processing and packaging facilities. Food safety standards and traceability will be strictly ensured.
Efforts continue to develop linked production and consumption chains to meet export market demands. Training, scientific transfer, and organic farming models for fruits like durian and pomelo are promoted.
By September 2024, the province received 18 importers’ certificates for growing areas and 7 for packaging units of bananas and durians exported to China. Currently, Dong Nai has 39 domestic planting areas covering 410 hectares, and 189 export planting areas totaling nearly 28,000 hectares, along with 93 packaging facilities certified for exports to markets including China, the US, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
According to Tran Lam Sinh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, certification of growing areas and packaging units acts as a lever for sustainable economic development by fostering trust and transparency in Vietnamese agricultural exports.
