(ĐN)- Dong Nai is expediting the development of a proposal to establish a Free Trade Zone (FTZ) to better leverage its strategic infrastructure advantages, including Long Thanh International Airport and Phuoc An Seaport. The proposal is expected to be completed in May 2025 for submission to the Prime Minister.

Long Thanh International Airport is an advantage for Dong Nai to build a free trade zone.

According to the Department of Finance, the FTZ will be developed as a complex zone with various functional subdivisions, such as production, logistics, trade and finance, digital economy, and innovation. The goal is to make the FTZ a gateway for Southeast Asia’s imports and exports, a hub for high-value export manufacturing, and a center for global financial and modern service industries.

The province has proposed six potential areas for study and development of the FTZ: Bau Can – Tan Hiep Industrial Park, centralized IT park, innovation hub, logistics zone in Long Thanh district, Xuan Que – Song Nhan Industrial Park in Cam My district, and the Phuoc An Port and logistics area in Nhon Trach district.

Although the FTZ model is still new in Vietnam, Dong Nai aims to position it as a pilot zone for institutional and policy innovation. The FTZ is expected to boost investment attraction, increase import-export activities, generate tens of thousands of new jobs, and enhance workforce quality. However, departments have emphasized the need for careful selection of the model and development strategy, with strict management and oversight to ensure sustainable growth.
