(ĐN)- Scientists and tourism businesses recognize that Dong Nai possesses a unique volcanic cave system with significant potential for conservation, planning, and development of adventure tourism. Formed through continuous volcanic eruptions over the past 15 million to a few thousand years, these caves feature distinct geological characteristics that could attract global visitors.

In recent years, several tourism companies have explored and developed cave tours in Dong Nai. Tri An Adventure has conducted surveys in Tan Phu, Dinh Quan, Thong Nhat, and Trang Bom, identifying Tan Phu and Dinh Quan as key areas for tourism development. Meerkat Travel, the first licensed adventure tourism company in the province, has designed specialized tours ensuring safety and professional guidance. Many tourists have expressed fascination with the caves’ unique formations and landscapes, leading to increasing interest in this new tourism segment.

Experts suggest that Dong Nai has the potential to establish a global geopark and seek UNESCO recognition based on its volcanic landscapes, water bodies including hot springs, and unique cave systems. However, challenges remain as some caves on private land have been used for waste disposal due to a lack of awareness about their geological value. Conservation efforts and structured tourism planning are necessary to protect and promote this natural asset.

In early 2025, Oxalis, the company behind Quang Binh’s renowned cave tours, conducted surveys in Dinh Quan and Tan Phu and proposed new tourism models. In Tan Phu, small-scale homestay tourism could be developed in combination with fruit gardens and eco-tourism activities at Ta Lai and Cat Tien National Park. In Dinh Quan, Oxalis suggested a cave lodge model, offering a unique accommodation experience for travelers along National Highway 20, connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Da Lat.

According to experts, Dong Nai’s rich history of volcanic activity, diverse biodiversity, and cultural heritage provide a strong foundation for sustainable tourism development. With proper conservation and planning, cave tourism could become a key driver of the local economy in the future.
