According to data released by the General Statistics Office on May 29, the total retail sales of consumer goods and services in May 2023 were estimated at 519 trillion VND, an increase of 1.5% compared to the previous month and up 11.5% over the same period in 2022.
During the five months in 2023, the total retail sales of consumer goods and services were estimated at 2.52 quadrillion VND, up 12.6% over the same period last year.
The retail sales of goods in the first five months of 2023 recorded an increase of 10.7% against the same period in 2022, estimated at 1.99 quadrillion VND.
Which, revenue from food and foodstuff expanded by 14.6%, garments rose by 11.1%, household appliances, tools and equipment grew by 4.8%, means of transport (except for cars) advanced by 4.2%, and cultural and educational products increased by 1.9%.
Meanwhile, the revenue from accommodation and food services was reported at 268.3 trillion VND, up 22.1%. Some localities posted strong growth, including Da Nang, up 40.3%; Can Tho, up 27.2%; Dong Nai, up 23.6%; Ho Chi Minh City, up 23.4%; Quang Ninh, up 21.8%; Hai Phong, up 14.4%; and Hanoi, up 11.9%.
Tourism revenue reached 11.6 trillion VND, a sharp rise of 89.4% compared to the first five months of 2022, thanks to many public holidays in May.
