Dong Nai Province that borders Ho Chi Minh City is working on a project it had launched last year to upgrade a riverside route stretching 5.2 kilometers long beside the Dong Nai River in Buu Long Ward of Bien Hoa Town.

Costing VND1.3 trillion ($56 million), the project includes works to build the river embankment, parks and a tunnel. To carry out the project, authorities had to relocate 302 households.

The province is about to start work to build a new road along the Cai River, a branch of the Dong Nai River to ease traffic jams in the center of Bien Hoa. The road will stretch 4.5 kilometers long, 32 meters wide, and costs more than VND574 billion.

Ngo The An, director of Dong Nai Project Management Board, said the province has completed basic investment procedures for building the road, including choosing the contractor and the consulting bidding packages.

"It is expected that work will start in Q3 this year to build the road along the Cai River," he said.

Along with the project to build the riverside road, the province will also push progress to build a street of VND1.5 trillion in the heart of Bien Hoa.

That street is shaped to become the main road leading to downtown Bien Hoa. It will comprise a bridge of 560 meters long crossing the Cai River.

A project of VND30 billion will also be implemented to help residents remove more than 400 fish farming cages along tje Cai River. The removal will reduce water pollution and at the same time, allow greater waterway traffic.

In addition, a riverside landscape improvement project along the Dong Nai River in Bien Hoa will be resumed after five years of suspension for re-assessing environmental impacts.

The project of VND4 trillion will comprise work to encroach the river by almost 100 meters to build roads, parks and residential areas.

Lying 30 kilometers east of HCMC, Bien Hoa spreads over 264 square kilometers and is home to more than 1.25 million people.
