It was also the last month of the lunar year, seeing an upward trend of prices of necessities and consumer services prior to Tet (Lunar New Year), the largest and longest festival of the Vietnamese people.

Among groups of commodities and services experiencing rising prices last month, housing and construction materials witnessed the highest year-on-year increase of 1.5 percent, contributing 0.3 percent to the overall growth of the industry.

Transportation expanded by 1.24 percent as a result of higher prices of fuel, while food and catering services up 0.24 percent, contributing 0.13 percent and 0.08 percent, respectively, to the growth.

The Statistics Office also reported that the gold price grew 0.45 percent month on month. The US dollar exchange rate declined 0.09 percent compared to the previous month.
