According to the province’s portal, the provincial departments and agencies discussed the construction of the bridge with local authorities in Nhon Trach on January 6.

As suggested by the provincial Department of Transport, the bridge would start from My Thuy Intersection, run along Nguyen Thi Dinh Street in the city’s District 2 and cross the Dong Nai River to connect with Nhon Trach. Under this plan, the bridge will have six to eight lanes.

Under the second plan, the bridge will stretch from the Ring Road 2 project, some 450 meters away from Phu My toll station and over one kilometer from My Thuy Intersection, crossing Ky Ha Canal in District 2 and the Dong Nai River to reach Nhon Trach.

Similarly, the bridge as envisaged in the second plan will also have six to eight lanes.

The province, after reviewing the two plans, asked the transport department to consider adding a plan for building the bridge with four lanes to restrict road expansions on the HCMC side, thereby increasing the project’s feasibility.

When all the plans are complete, the province will invite the HCMC agencies to jointly select the most appropriate plan for execution.

In April last year, the southern locality sought approvals from the Ministry of Transport and the Government to let it invite investors to join the project, with a total investment of VND7.2 trillion.

The investment will be partly backed by the province’s budget and land fund, while HCMC will invest in sections of the bridge running through the city.

Four months later, Dong Nai received the Government’s approval to manage the project’s execution.

The Cat Lai Bridge was projected to be a four-kilometer-long cable-stayed bridge, with at least four lanes and a clearance height of 55 meters for ships to navigate under. It will start from My Thuy Intersection and end at Nhon Trach, according to the city’s previous study.

Further, the city planned to invest some VND5.7 trillion in the bridge, excluding interest rates and returns on investment, while site clearance compensation could be VND1.2 trillion.
