The Government chief made the point at the conference on Southern key economic region on May 6 in Dong Nai province.
Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong who is also the Chairman of the Region proposed the Government early issue a decree on economic region and allow the establishment of a fund on regional development.

PM Phuc assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Office of the Government to compose a directive of the PM on Southern key economic region development.
PM Phuc stressed that the Southern key economic zone is the most dynamic region and the most attractive FDI destination in Viet Nam.
However, advantages have yet been optimized. Infrastructure conditions fail to meet potentials. The region is coping with poor urban quality, impacts of climate change, low PCI, PAPI, and competitiveness.
Implementing leading mission
PM Phuc said that the Southern key economic zone should boost connectivity in an organic manner and become a united system. He stressed the necessity to build a strong mechanism which is flexibleor exempted by administrative boundaries.
He proposed special policies for the zone to rise and conduct its leading mission.
Localities in the Southern key economic zone were asked to boost cooperation in investment promotion, resource mobilization, socio-economic infrastructure construction, job training and generation, scientific research and transferring, and building of socio-economic database in favor of environmental protection and climate change response.
PM Phuc asked his inferiors to speed up progress of site clearance and settlement for Long Thanh international airport project and put it into operation in 2020. Trung Luong-My Thuan-Can Tho Expressway should be operational by 2020, he added.
