The extended metro line will facilitate residents' travel in the two provinces and HCMC as well as attract more passengers for the project and boost urban development along the route, contributing to reduce traffic congestion in the northeastern part of HCM city.

As planned, the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro line is 20km long and has an investment of USD2.49 billion. The entire metro line is scheduled for completion and operation in 2020.

Dong Nai province’s People’s Committee has asked that the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro route, now under construction, be extended 4.7 kilometres to reach the Vung Tau intersection in Bien Hoa City in Dong Nai province. At The same time, Binh Duong province’s People’s Committee has also requested the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro route to be extended to Di An town.

Some VND21,234 billion will be needed to extend the metro line to Binh Duong and Dong Nai, according to the calculation from a research team of the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
