(ĐN)- Trom tree (Sterculia foetida) farmers in Xuan Loc district’s Xuan Hoa commune have started harvesting Trom resin.
According to the farmers, thanks to the favorable weather condition, the trees have produced high productivity and quality, with average yield of about 1-1.2 tons of resin per hectare.
With prices of VND200,000-201,000 per kg, growers can earn profits of VND150-170 million per ha.
Presently, Xuan Hoa commune is home to more than 5 ha of Trom trees under harvest. It also petitions to authorities for granting certificate recognizing Rung La Trom Resin trade name.
Trom trees have a high economic value and can grow well on hills and dry land. The tree can be found in tropical countries like India, Australia, Pakistan, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia and Viet Nam.
At present, many farmers in Southern Viet Nam grow these trees in their gardens due to the plant's high economic value and the fact that it can grow on barren, hilly land.
The tree's timber can be used to make packaging, but its most valuable component is its resin, which can be used in beverages as well as medicine and glue.
