Seven contractors from the US, Japan and the Europe wish to join the Long Thanh International Airport project as the Feasibility Study (F/S) contractor.
The information was released by the Aviation Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) at a December 15 working session with Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Nhat and relevant bodies on selection of the F/S contractor for the first phase of the project.
According to the ACV, contractors’ profiles will be considered for approval in December and early January 2016. After the Ministry of Transport approved the contractors, the corporation will launch the bidding before the Lunar New Year 2016 festival.
Addressing the event, Deputy Minister Nhat emphasised the need to implement the project on schedule, adding that the development of infrastructure facilities related to the airport should also be accelerated.
In September 2015, the ACV submitted to the Transport Ministry a draft plan on the Long Thanh International Airport project which proposes a number of measures to speed up the implementation process.
Long Thanh International Airport will be built in Long Thanh district, Dong Nai province as a 4F-category airport under the criteria of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). The project is estimated to cost over 336.6 trillion VND (16.03 billion USD).
The construction will be divided into three phases with phase I set for the airport to accommodate 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargoes.
Upon the completion in 2050, the airport will be capable of handling 100 million passengers and 5 million tonnes of cargoes.
