Kirby Building Systems established in 1976, one of the largest pre-engineered steel building (PEB) companies in the world, is a subsidiary of the Kuwait-based multinational and multi-billion-dollar business conglomerate - Alghanim Industries. Kirby is one of the largest privately-owned companies in the Middle East.
Kirby has five manufacturing facilities in Kuwait, Ras-Al-Khaimah (UAE), Vietnam and India, with a total capacity of about 400,000 MT per annum supported by over 4,000 employees.
As pioneers and global leaders in the field of pre-engineered steel building systems (PEB) outside the US, it has contributed significantly to the industry and gained valuable experience in the course of manufacturing over 65,000 buildings across 70 countries.
Kirby has more than 400 certified builders globally for providing erection of steel buildings along with other trades up to turnkey projects. The company operates 70 sales offices located across six geographical regions, namely the Gulf Cooperation Council, the rest of the Middle East, the Indian Sub-Continent, Africa, Eastern Europe and South East Asia.
The company has been in Vietnam since 1999 and started operation in Vietnam in 2008 as Kirby South East Asia (Kirby SEA) in Dong Nai Province, with a strong position in the local market and high quality products. Kirby SEA has sales offices in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, Indonesia, Philippines, Bangladesh and Myanmar and contractors are certified in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
“Our modern plant in Dong Nai is the 5th factory of Kirby globally and the first one in Southeast Asia with an annual capacity of 50,000 MT. From this factory, we serve the South East Asian and African markets. We export to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Australia, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Myanmar”, said Anup Kumar Dave, General Director of Kirby South East Asia.
Highlighting more about Kirby’s factory in Dong Nai Province, he said, “The investment condition including infrastructure, logistic, power and labor force in Dong Nai Province is very good. We get good support from the local government in Dong Nai to do investment there.”
According to Anup, Kirby SEA has provided more than 500 steel buildings in the country and the region. The company currently has a total investment of US$19 million and more than 380 experienced staff.
He also said that the business in Vietnam is still growing despite the economic slowdown.
“We grow steadily year by year about 18-20 percent in Vietnam. Kirby has consistently grown and been well-known in the ASEAN market. And Vietnam is the potential and biggest market in South East Asia.”
Kirby SEA has also contributed to the local community via CSR activities to help children in their education. Furthermore, the company has cooperated with some universities in Ho Chi Minh City for internship. “With continual effort to follow the company’s core values, we are on course to realize our vision to be the most successful and admired pre-engineered steel building company in Vietnam,” said Anup.
To further Kirby SEA’s operation and investment in Dong Nai in particular and in Vietnam in general, Dave still considered Dong Nai as a potential destination for investors like Kirby due to good conditions, favorable location and good connection with Ho Chi Minh City. He also likes to move Kirby’s office to Dong Nai Province in the near future for more convenience. “In 2016 we plan to have one more factory near the existing one in Dong Nai, and we expect to increase our capability to serve more clients in Vietnam and the region,” Anup said.
