The Viet Nam Expressway Corporation (VEC) will be responsible for launching the project, which is financed US$286 million from the Ordinary Capital Resources (OCR).

With a total length of 25.2 km, the road includes four lanes and comes into operation in the second quarter of 2019.

The PM asks the Ministry of Transport to direct the investor to speed up the progress of the first phase of the project.

The first phase of Ben Luc-Long Thanh highway has a total length of 57.1 km running through Long An province, Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province.

It requires an investment of VND31.3 trillion (roughly US$1.6 billion), including US$636 million funded by ADB, US$635 funded by the Japanese Government via JICA and the counterpart capital of US$337 million from the Vietnamese Government.

The project aims to promote the socio-economic development in the South, especially the Southeast as well as attract more investment and enhance tourism in these three localities.

When completed, the expressway will facilitate transportation between the south-eastern region and the Mekong Delta without running through HCM City, thus helping reduce traffic congestion on National Highway No 1A in HCM City and National Highway No 51 in Dong Nai Province.
