(ĐN)- Nestlé Group, which has coffee processing plant in Amata Industrial Park, said it is cooperating with partners to carry out the project on efficient water resources management for coffee farming for 50,000 farmers in Central Highlands provinces.
Accordingly, Nestlé has coordinated with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) to provide financial support worth 2 million euros and Germany-based EDE Consultancy Company to deploy the project “More coffee with less water - towards a reduction of the blue water footprint in coffee production” in Daklak, Dak Nong, Gia Lai, Kon Tum and Lam Dong provinces.
The project aims to better manage water resources for coffee farming to cushion impact of natural disasters and climate change. The project of using water for coffee growing efficiently was launched in April and will run until 2019.
Under the plan, the project will provide courses for 30 trainers and 2,000 farmers and help establish six trial models on sustainable coffee production with efficient watering in every province of the project.
Experts said that coffee farmers use 700-1,000 liters of water on average for farming while the volume coffee trees need to produce yields is just 300-400 liters.
