The industry is estimated to have more room for export development due to increased market demand and shifted production orders to Vietnam, including Dong Nai.
The provincial Department of Statistics reported that the footwear export turnover hit approximately US$545 million in the first three months, or a year-on-year increase of more than 13 percent, making it one of the province’s key export items.
Some large local enterprises have increased investment in upgrading technology, modernizing production chain, and developing their own brand name for export.
The upcoming signing of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement is expected to bring more advantages to the industry.
Footwear has been Dong Nai's leading export item with total earnings in 2014 hitting US$2.23 billion, up over 19 percent over the previous year.
It is predicted that foreign partners will continue to move their orders from other markets to Vietnam in the coming time.
