(ĐN)- Chairman Dinh Quoc Thai of Dong Nai provincial People’s Committee on March 25 chaired a meeting to review the socio-economic situation in the first quarter (Q1) of this year.
In Jan-March period, the gross regional domestic product (GRDP) saw a year-on-year increase of more than 10.5% to approximately VND15.5 trillion. Of the total, the industry-construction sector accounted for over VND10,1 trillion, services contributed nearly VND4.25 trillion, and agriculture-forestry-fishery sector was VND1.08 trillion.
At the meeting, the provincial Department of Industry and Trade (DoIT) also reported a trade surplus of around US$270 million in the first three months of the year. Accordingly, exports reached more than US$3.23 billion, up 12.2 percent compared to the same period of last year, while imports hit US$2.96 billion, up 6.4 percent.
Director Le Van Danh of the DoIT said that the turnover rise was attributed mainly to the shipments of apparel, footwear, wood and wooden products, machineries, equipment and spare parts.
It was also resulted from increases in demand from major traditional markets, including the US, Japan, China, South Korea, Germany and Indonesia.
A shift in foreign orders to Vietnam and the province in particular, where the tax rate for many products is reducing to zero percent thanks to signed free trade agreements (FTAs), was named as a significant contributing factor.
Dong Nai’s budget collection in Q1 reached over VND9 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 15 percent. Of the total, domestic collection was more than VND6 trillion while the revenue from import and export activities contributed some VND2.8 trillion to the State budget.
To achieve the above result, the taxation sector has made efforts to provide support to local businesses to help overcome difficulties and contribute to the State budget, while administrative reforms in tax has been also enhanced, said Nguyen Van Cong, Head of Dong Nai Taxation Bureau.
In the coming time, the sector will focus on further managing tax declaration of enterprises, organisations and individuals operating in the locality to avoid tax dodge.
