(ĐN)- According to the HCM city’s Trade Promotion Center, in order to make full use of preferential tariffs, Vietnam’s exporters need to apply for certificates of origin(CO) under the Vietnam–Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (VJEPA).
The VJEPA was inked in 2008, forming a stable legal framework facilitating bilateral trade and investment. Within 10 years, Vietnam and Japan will remove taxes, paving the way for the construction of a full bilateral free trade area.
Under the agreement, average tax rates on Vietnamese goods exported to Japan and vice versa will be gradually cut to 2.8 percent and 7 percent by 2018 respectively.
To enjoy preferential tariffs for exports to Japan, Vietnamese enterprises have to identify the code of products to make sure whether they can go with the list of commodities of tax rates cut or not. The exporters could contact the Ministry of Finance or the General Department of Customs for further information. Then they will check applied import-export duties of Japan at the website address www.customs.go.jp.
In addition, the exporters need to have origin of products for CO application.
