Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai has ordered the establishment of a council on key economic regions (KER) with a view to boosting close coordination in related affairs.
The Chairmen of the provincial and municipal People’s Committees will be members of the council.
The Ministry of Planning and Investment was assigned to promptly finalize an organizational model for KERs and coordinating mechanisms among ministries, agencies and localities in KERs.
After 20 years of establishment and development, KERs accounted for over 90% of national export turnover; more than 89% of Budget collection; 82% of FDI attraction, and became economic and cultural hubs and driving force for national development.
Nevertheless, the coordination among KERs still faced shortcomings due to the lack of close connectivity in order to promote respective potentials.
Viet Nam has three KERs including the Northern KER, the Central KER and the Southern KER.
The Northern KER covers seven provinces and municipalities namely Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Quang Ninh, Hai Duong.
The Central KER includes Da Nang city and the provinces of Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh.
The southern KER covers eight provinces and municipalities, namely Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Long An, Tien Giang.
