Low profits compared to other plants, as well as low prices and low yields, led to the decline in cultivation area.
In the southern province of Dong Nai, farmers earn a profit of about VND6 million (US$285) per ha of cashew a year, less than one-tenth that of the profits from cultivating pepper, coffee or dragon fruit, according to the province's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
