(ĐN)- Cocoa products grown in Dong Nai have been certified by UTZ for meeting international-quality standards. Particularly, 79 local farmers who manage 92 ha of cocoa trees were awarded the certification.
As known, the certification is awarded to products that have good quality and are economically, socially and environmentally sustainable.
Farmers are pleased with the program, saying they can earn more profits from UTZ-certified cocoa and become more aware about work safety.
They are also provided with training courses on intensive cultivation technologies, pesticides and chemical fertilizers.
UTZ-certified cocoa products are purchased at a higher price of VND2,500 per kilo compared to market cocoa.
Therefore, it’s necessary to raise the number of farmers in a UTZ-certified cocoa production program to increase production area and yields.
