(ĐN)- Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat on Friday presided over a conference in Ho Chi Minh city, focusing on rubber production in 2014.
As of June, 2014, the country has planted more than 950,000 hectares of rubber, 150,000 hectares higher than the year’s plan. Since the beginning this year, over 3,800 hectares of rubber have been cut down for re-cultivation, and by farmers to make room for cultivating other crops.
At the conference, Viet Nam Rubber Group (VRG) suggested to plant only 400,000 hectares of rubber, 100,000 hectares lower than the plan.
Speaking at the conference, Minister Cao Duc Phat instructed the localities as well as VRG to check the rubber plantation project, adding the rubber businesses should seek further export markets, focusing on India-the second leading rubber importer after China.
