Thaco leads in domestic auto sales

March saw Thaco securing 36% market share with its sales volume amounting to 3,336 units, with 1,800 of them commercial vehicles and the remainder passenger cars.

Last month, sales of Thaco’s Kia passenger cars alone accounted of 852 units, 9.1% local market share, ranking second after Toyota. The figure has brought sales of Thaco’s Kia passenger cars in the first quarter this year to 2,174 units, an annual rise of 33%.

The highest sales growth of Thaco is attributed to its subsidiary Vina Mazda, which assembles and distributes Mazda cars with the total sales reached 676 units last month, a year-on-year increase of 230%, ranking second in most consumed auto brands in the domestic market.

The first quarter local auto sales were 9,313 units, including 6,197 passenger cars, 2,500 commercial vehicles and 616 other automobiles, VAMA said.

This is the twelfth consecutive monthly growth of local auto sales compared to the year-ago period.

Local experts expect auto sales to continue strong growth in the incoming months. VAMA forecasts sales of about 120,000 automobile units in 2014, up 9 percent from a year earlier.
