Industrial production up 4.7% in March

Vietnam's Index of Industrial Production (IIP) for March finished up 4.7% against the March 2013 figure.

Vietnam’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) for March finished up 4.7% against the March 2013 figure.

According to the General Statistics Office , the first-quarter IIP recorded a year-on-year rise of 5.2%, slightly higher than the 5% increase experienced during the first quarter of 2013 with respect to Q1 of 2012.

Several industries have seen high growth during the first quarter including textiles (20.2%), leather and leather products (19.4%) and ready-made clothes (14%).

The northern port city of Hai Phong and the central city of Da Nang are among the localities with the most rapid increases in IIP, with 11.3% and 10.5% respectively.

They are followed by Quang Nam province (8.9%), Dong Nai Province (7.1%) and Binh Duong province (6.5%).

Meanwhile, declines in industrial production have been seen in Quang Ninh province (-3.5%) and Ba Ria-Vung Tau province (1.7%).
