Construction of Long Thanh International Airport is necessary for development, said Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang on March 27.
It is an important strategy for planning national development, said Thang.
Long Thanh will be as a level F4 international airport in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s guidelines. The airport capacity will be 100 million passengers and 5 million tons of cargo per year.
The first phase will complete construction by 2025, transporting 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo. The capacity will increase to 50 million passengers in the second phase by 2030.
It will become an international airport with capacity of 100 million passengers in the third phase after 2030.
Minister Thang proposes Airports Corporation of Vietnam to determine investment capital sources for site clearance and construction of the airport. The company should also plan a good traffic route to link the airport.
