(ĐN) – The Vietnam Expressway Company (VEC) on January 2 held a ceremony to open to traffic 20-km section of the HCM City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway.
The ceremony was attended by Minister Dinh La Thang, Deputy Minister Nguyen Ngoc Dong of Transport, Secretary Tran Dinh Thanh of Dong Nai provincial Party Committee and Chairman Dinh Quoc Thai of the provincial People’s Committee.
The section running from Ring Road II in District 9 in HCM city to National Highway 51 in Long Thanh district has six lanes, including two for emergency stops.
The 55 km HCMC- Long Thanh, Dau Giay expressway project connecting the Ho Chi Minh City with National Highway 51started in October 2009 with a total investment of more than VND20,600 billion.
Cars, buses, and trucks of less than 10 tonnes are allowed to use the highway now, and charged a toll of VND40,000-80,000.
Once put into operation, the section of expressway will shorten the distance from HCM City to Long Thanh from 45km to 22km and the travelling time from one hour to 20 minutes. It will also reduce the HCM City - Vung Tau distance from 120km to 95km and the travelling time from more than 2.5 hours to 80 minutes.
The same day, Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Ngoc Dong inspected the rest of the expressway project, which is expected to be completed by early 2015, and Vung Tau flyover project in Bien Hoa city.
