The output of steel in 2013 was estimated at nearly 5 million tonnes, according to the Vietnam Steel Association (VSA).
The VSA reported that sales reached 4.6 million tonnes, up 2.5% from a year earlier, and that around 300,000 tonnes remain in the inventory.
It is estimated that Vietnam exported 2.5 million of steel and steel products in 2013, generating a revenue of over US$2 billion.
According to the VSA, steel sales rose only slightly as a result of a weak property market and the sales increase was primarily boosted by exports.
It predicted that steel sales will not see much improvement in 2014, projected at only 2-3%.
