(ĐN)-Although encountered many difficulties due to global economic downturn, Dong Nai still fulfilled its socioeconomic development targets. In 2012, the province achieved an economic growth of 12.1 percent, double the country’s average, and a per capita gross domestic product (GDP) of US$1,977.

The encouraging results were attributed to the provincial authorities’ great efforts in utilizing every resource to promote production development. Accordingly, the province focused on implementing policies to assist businesses to surmount difficulties in production, trade and finding markets, contributing to fulfilling the target of taming inflation, strengthening macroeconomic stability and assuring social security.
Dong Nai reached or exceeded 32 of its 35 socioeconomic development targets set for 2012. It attracted US$1 billion in FDI and VND11 trillion in domestic investment capital, reported a budget revenue of nearly VND27 trillion, saw significant decrease in the number of malnourished children and the increasing rate of cultural families.
Dong Nai also took the initiative in trade promotion in foreign countries including the Republic of Korea (RoK), Japan, India and Laos. It held meetings in the province attracting foreign businesses. After those activities, more foreign businesses came to Dong Nai to look for investment opportunities.
Maintaining a high economic growth and strengthening investment in new rural area construction, environment protection, and social welfare assurance are the province’s important targets for 2013.
Accordingly, the province will focus on quality of projects, prioritizing hi-tech, electronics and electricity, and supporting industries, limit the number of investment projects which heavily affect environment. Dong Nai will also issue preferential policies to attract projects on agricultural production using advanced techniques and biotechnology, and on processing farm products.
To do the above-mentioned effectively, the province needs to concentrate on developing a high quality workforce, speeding up administrative procedure reform, production and business, as well as removal of obstacles faced by enterprises, better taking care of potential and existing investors in industrial parks.
