The prices of live pigs in Dong Nai province have dropped significantly in recent weeks. Pig breeders are selling 100kg of pork at a loss of between VND700,000 (US$33.3) and VND800,000, according to Nguyen Tri Cong, president of Dong Nai Province's Livestock Association.
Prices began dropping in April when authorities discovered that banned lean-meat substances were being used in pig-breeding farms in the province.
