Speaking at the event, Ryuhei Shimasaki, general director of Marubeni Vietnam, said in the coming time the company would foster cooperation with local partners in agricultural production and foodstuff and seafood processing, along with the current export-import activities.

Previously in July, Marubeni signed an agreement to form strategic partnership with Dong Nai Food Industrial Corporation (Dofico). Accordingly, the two companies would jointly establish a closed production chain of farm produce facilitating animal feed production, invest in the Dong Nai-Agropark agro-industrial complex project, and develop fresh food store chain to supply safe products to consumers.

In addition, Marubeni Singapore and France-Vietnam Joint Stock Company (Proconco) have agreed to develop a cooperation program in which the former will assist the import of raw materials for the latter to produce animal feed.

Marubeni also planned to join hands with other firms in producing canned seafood. According to Shimasaki, these products would initially serve local consumption, and later aim for export.

Marubeni Corporation has over 600 member companies in 84 nations worldwide. The general trading firm opened representative offices in Hanoi and HCMC in 1991.

Marubeni Vietnam Co. Ltd., with US$5 million in the total investment capital, will operate in the fields of export-import and distribution, providing services of commercial brokerage, machinery maintenance and repair, as well as market research.
