More than 6,500 households in Long Thanh and Nhon Trach districts in Dong Nai province have received compensation worth VND70 billion (US$3.3 million) from Taiwanese company Vedan.
More than 6,500 households in Long Thanh and Nhon Trach districts in Dong Nai province have received compensation worth VND70 billion (US$3.3 million) from Taiwanese company Vedan.
Last January, about 6,000 other households accepted compensation of VND40 billion ($2 million).
In September, 2008, the company was found to have been directly discharging untreated waste water into the Thi Vai River for years, affecting local farmers in Dong Nai, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and HCM City. The latter two localities received compensation several months ago.
