Dong Nai expects to harvest nearly 112,000 tonnes of corn for 2011 crop year

(ĐN)- Farmers in Dong Nai province cultivated more than 19,000 hectares of corn for the 2011 crop year, declined by over 250 hectares compared with a year earlier, according to the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Despite the decline in the area under corn cultivation over last year, local farmers are hoping to get a bumper crop this year and the yield per hectare is forecast at over 100 kilos per hectare higher than last year.

Dong Nai province as a whole expects to harvest nearly 112,000 tonnes of corn in this year’s crop, up about 4,354 tonnes from last year. The largest cultivation areas in the province included the three districts of Cam My, Xuan Loc and Trang Bom.
