Quoc said he made cashew tree to bear fruit much ahead of the normal bearing season three years ago thanks to the use of advanced farming techniques offered by Xuan Loc- Long Khanh Plant Protection Department which helped to achieved a yield of 3.5 tonnes per hectare. Every year, the cashew trees on his farm bear fruits nearly one month earlier than those in other farms, giving a yield of 4 -4.5 tonnes per hectare. This year, Quoc reaped an early harvest season and his first 100 kilograms of cashew nuts were sold for around VND 40,000 per kilo.
If local farmers make cashew tree to bear fruit early, they will get benefits from selling their cashew nut products at a high price and preventing cashew apples from falling off the tree due to the out-of-season rain in March, Head of Xuan Loc- Long Khanh Plant Protection Department Trinh Thi Diu said. Local farmers are encouraged to strengthen exchanges and learn from the experiences of Hua Van Quoc to increase their incomes.
